Ø26 mm hexagonal thermal area (15mm x 15mm XY sample area, optional ø12mm diameter quartz crucible insert)
Integrated XY sample positioning with 10mm travel range
Sealed chamber with gas purging capability
Instec's HCS621GXY gas-tight stage is a versatile tool designed for applications where a wide temperature range and control over the atmosphere are critical. This stage features a Ø28mm silver heating and cooling block and 2mm transmission aperture, providing the user with exceptional temperature uniformity. The gas-tight chamber provides a sealed enviroment for gas purge to avoid condensation or oxidation, or for controlled humidity studies. A low working distance of 5mm makes the HCS621GXY compatible with a wide range of optical systems, often without the need to add long working distance objectives. Integrated sample XY can be used to move the sample across ther thermal block without repositioning the thermal stage.
Choose from a variety of base-model add ons such as IR windows, active sample cooling systems, sample clips, or mounting adaptors.
Upgrade to the HCS621GXY+ model to customize the stage with special options such as increased transmission aperture size, customized covers, electrical feedthroughs and much more!

HCS621GXY Base-Model Options
Add-on options for the HCS621GXY base model are listed below. These items can be added at any time, and can even be installed by the end-user in the field. When adding a cooling system to an existing HCS621GXY system, it may be necessary to upload a new parameter file to the temperature controller.
Active Sample Cooling The standard HCS621GXY supports precision temperature control from room temperature to 600°C. Enable active sample cooling with one of our LN2 suction-pump cooling systems to unlock active cooling rates as high as -50°C/min and a lower temperature limit of -190°C. Note: When cooling below -60, it is highly recommended to utilize gas-tight stage body to prevent condensation and ice formation via a gas-purge or low-vacuum.
- Add LN2-P4D3 Cooling System 4-stage LN2 suction pump cooling system with 3L LN2 Dewar PN: LN2-P4D3 |
- Add LN2-P8D10 Cooling System 8-stage LN2 suction pump cooling system with high-capacity 10L LN2 Dewar PN: LN2-P8D3 |
Window Size and Viewing Angle The standard HCS621GXy has a vgas-tight chamber lid with a viewing aperture of 18mm (22mm glass window) with a viewing angle of ±57.0° from normal. For applications which require a larger observation area and/or a larger viewing angle, alternate chamber lids are available. Larger window sizes increase the viewing area and angle, but comes at the cost of slightly reduced temperature uniformity. Customization of the bottom viewing aperture is possible, but requires upgrading to the HCS621GXY+ model. If large observation windows are required on both the top and bottom surfaces, take a look at Instec's -IRM stage models.

- 27mm aperture lid PN: R03170-HCS621GXY |
Window Material
The HCS621GXY utilizes removable and exchangeable windows to optimize performance for any wavelength. Base-model options are shown below, but specialized options are available per request with the HCS621GXY+ model. Note: The exact window part number depends on desired chamber lid, as multiple sizes are available

Sample Mounting The HCS621GXY is typically used in a horizontal configuration with the integrated XY positioners and uses gravity to secure the sample against the thermal block. In cases where more thermal contact is required, samples are not perfectly flat, or a special mounting solution is desirable, alternate sample mounting options are available for the HCS621GXY. Threaded holes on the sample area are included with each HCS621GXY base model, and a set of up to 3 spring loaded sample clips can be added to conveniently secure tricky samples, or to secure sample when the stage is used in a vertical configuration. Note: Spring-loaded sample clips are NOT compatible with the Integrated XY positioners when used with certain samples (ie. very thin microscope slide covers). Consult sales@instec.com for more information on whether your sample may be used in a vertical configuration.
- Threaded holes on thermal block (Standard) Hole dimensions available by request PN: HCS621GXY |
- Add up to 3X sample clips Spring loaded stainless steel sample clips PN: SFC-HCS621GXY |
Environmental Control With its Gas-tight chamber, the HCS621GXY base model is capable of positive pressure gas-purge up to 0.5 Bar or very rough evacuation down to 1mBar. Gas ports are avialable in either straight or right angle orientations. Right angle ports are generally more low-profile, and may be prefferable for certain applications. Relative humidity control is also avialable via our RHC01 relative humidity controller.
- +0.5 Bar gas-purge/ very rough Vacuum [1 mBar] with straight ports (Standard) PN: SAGP-HCS621GXY |

Special options for HCS621GXY+ customizable model
Upgrade to HCS621GXY+ for access to special options including:
Transmission Aperture Some applications require larger transmission apertures than others- whether it be to see more of a sample, allow for more light transmission, or for compatibility with specialized instruments. However, larger transmission apertures also result in larger thermal gradients across the observation area, decreasing the temperature uniformity. Tune the HCS621GXY+ transmission aperture size to optimize the temperature uniformity while maximizing the transmission aperture size.
- 2mm aperture (Standard) |
- 4mm aperture PN: AP4-HCS621GXY |
Electrical Feedthroughs For applications that require optical access with simultaneous temperature control and electrical testing, a range of gas-tight electrical feedthroughs may be added to the HCS621GXY+ customizable model. The HCS621GXY+ supports up to 2 additional standalone electrical feedthroughs, which may consist of a combination of up to 2 of any electrical feedthrough types. BNC type feedthroughs are available in two configurations: Grounded, where the outer BNC conductor is connected to earth ground for shielding, and Floating, where the outer BNC conductor is left floating relative to earth ground allowing the shielding conductor to be used as a second signal conductor. The Floating BNC configuration includes a second pogo-pin terminal for each feedthrough.
- 1x or 2x vacuum blanks (Standard) PN: F0V-HCS621GXY |
- 1x or 2x Grounded BNC Connectors with pogo pin terminals PN: F1V-HCS621GXY |
