INSTEC's TS102GXY/TS102VXY is a thermoelectric (Peltier) based stage which offers gastight/vacuum-tight capabilities and can provide cooling to -40°C without using cryogens liquid nitrogen. Thermoelectric heating/cooling greatly simplifies the system setup, reduces operating costs, and makes the TS102GXY/TS102VXY a convenient choice for performing long duration experiments at low temperatures.
- The TS102GXY is a lower cost option for controlling the atmosphere when high-vacuum operation is not required. Positive pressure purge-gas up to +0.5 Bar can be applied to the twin gas-purge ports to prevent sample oxidation or condensation. The stage can also be used with INSTEC's RHC01 relative humidity control system for studies of temperature/ humidity related phenomena.
- The TS102VXY improves upon the sealing of the TS102GXY to allow chamber evacuation down to 10^-3 mBar (high vacuum upgrade for 10^-6 mBar available). Vacuum compatibility is ideal for freeze drying samples under microscope, low-temp geology studies, or for replicating extraterrestrial environments.
A TS102GXY/ TS102VXY system consists of a thermal stage, mK2000 temperature controller, and a water cooling system such as the C100W or CW5000+ FVC11-2 valve box. Water cooling keeps the thermal stage frame safe to touch, and provides a reference temperature for the TEC modules to enable active cooling. The system can be added to most transmission or reflection based optical microscope systems, such as the TPM-CX40 polarizing microscope. Upgrade to the TS102GXY+/ TS102VXY+ model to access special options such as transmission aperture tuning, electrical feed-throughs and monitoring temperature sensors.

Gastight chamber is ideal for preventing condensation down to -60°C, light-duty oxidation prevention, or for humidity studies via the application of purge gas. Gastight configuration includes 2x sets of quick-connect hose fittings. Vacuum capability is ideal for preventing condensation, and oxidation over full operating temperature range via chamber evacuation. Vacuum configuration includes 1x stainless steel vacuum bellows + 1x machinable aluminum blank by default. Secondary vacuum bellows available by request. |

TS102GXY/ TS102VXY Base-Model Options
Add-on options for the TS102GXY/ TS102VXY base model are listed below. These items can be added at any time, and can even be installed by the end-user in the field.
TEC/ Frame Cooling Upgrades
The standard TS102GXY/ TS102VXY comes with a C100W benchtop water circulator that enables sample cooling down to -30°C. By adding ice to the C100W reservoir, the minimum achievable temperature is -40°C, which can be maintained for a short duration until the ice melts. To maintain these lower temperatures for longer intervals, alternative water cooling options are available. The CW5000 is a recirculating chiller that uses a compact refrigeration system to cool and circulate water as low as 5°C, allowing the TS102GXY/ TS102VXY to maintain -40°C indefinetly.
Note: Cooling for extended durations in ambient conditions will lead to condensation on the thermal area and sample. The TS102VXY chamber is sealed for positive pressure gas purge or evacuation to prevent condensation while cooling. | |

Transmission Aperture Adjustment Some applications require larger transmission apertures than others- whether it be to see more of a sample, allow for more light transmission, or for compatibility with specialized instruments. However, larger transmission apertures also result in larger thermal gradients across the observation area, decreasing the temperature uniformity. Tune the TS102GXY+/ TS102VXY+ transmission aperture size to optimize the temperature uniformity while maximizing the transmission aperture size. | |

Electrical Feedthroughs For applications that require optical access with simultaneous temperature control and electrical testing, a range of gas-tight electrical feedthroughs may be added to the TS102GXY+/ TS102VXY+ customizable model. The TS102GXY+/ TS102VXY+ supports up to 2 additional standalone electrical feedthroughs, which may consist of a combination of up to 2 of any electrical feedthrough types. BNC type feedthroughs are available in two configurations: Grounded, where the outer BNC conductor is connected to earth ground for shielding, and Floating, where the outer BNC conductor is left floating relative to earth ground allowing the shielding conductor to be used as a second signal conductor.
