Instec's HCS302/HCS302XY Hot and Cold stage offers a temperature-controlled environment that is an ideal choice for optical microscopy and other applications requiring optical access to the sample. Top and bottom dual pane windows on the HCS302/HCS302XY stage are removable and exchangeable to meet a range of spectroscopic needs. The stage can be mounted vertically, allowing horizontal beam access to the sample chamber. The HCS302/HCS302XY is large enough to accommodate a variety of samples, including electro-optic devices and standard 25mm x 75 mm microscope slides. An optional inner thermal cover is also included for work requiring ultra-high temperature stability and uniformity.
Choose from a variety of base-model add-ons such as IR windows, Liquid crystal cell holders, or active sample cooling systems, or upgrade to the HCS302+ model to customize the stage with special options such as increased transmission aperture size, customized covers, and much more!
The open construction of the HCS302 is convenient for side-loading glass slide smaples, but does not offer extensive protection against condensation when cooling, nor does it support inert gas purge to protect volatile samples. For a gas-tight alternative, see the HCS302GXY.

HCS302 Base-Model Options
Add-on options for the HCS302 base model are listed below. These items can be added at any time, and can even be installed by the end-user in the field. When adding a cooling system to an existing HCS302 system, it may be neccesary to upload a new parameter file to the temperature controller.
Active Sample Cooling The standard HCS302 supports precision temperature control from room temperature to 400°C. Enable active sample cooling with one of our LN2 suction-pump cooling systems to unlock active cooling rates as high as -40°C/min and a lower temperature limit of -60°C. Note: Cooling to -196°C is possible, but will result in condensation/ ice formation if precautions are not taken. | |

Mounting adaptors allow the HCS302 to be easily mounted onto your optical instrument of choice. Upgrade to HCS302+ for access to special options including:
Transmission Aperture
Some applications require larger transmission apertures than others- whether it be to see more of a sample, allow for more light transmission, or for compatability with specialized instruments. However, larger transmission apertures also result in larger thermal gradients across the observation area, decreasing the temperature uniformity. Tune the HCS302+ transmission aperture size to optimize the temperature uniformity while maximizing the transmission aperture size. | |

Upgraded Temperature Controller Options The HCS302 is designed for use with Instec's mK2000 series temperature controllers. While the switching PID controller is reccomended for most applications, in cases where low electrical noise is critical, the temperature controller may be upgraded to an LVDC output model.
