Instec's TSA12Gi is Thermoelectric Heater/Cooler (Peltier) thermal stage designed specifically for inverted optical microscopes. It features a large gastight sample chamber, thermoelectric temperaature control, wide adjustable viewing window, and customizable base plate.
The TSA12Gi's sample chamber can accommodate 35mm petri dish specimens and glass slides up to 53mm x 78mm(optional). Dual thermoelectric modules heat and cool with electrical current only, eliminating the need for an expensive chiller or a supply of liquid nitrogen. TEC cooling is especially convenient compared to LN2 for performing long duration experiments at cold temperatures, as it simplifies the system set up, reduces operating costs, and requires much less maintenance.
The gastight sample chamber can be used to prevent oxidation via gas-purge, aid in humidity studies, and makes for more efficient use of expensive reaction gasses. Purge gas is pre-heated/cooled before entering the sample chamber for improved thermal performance. The removable lid windows can be defrosted for low temperature operation, and blank ports are available for adding the user's own atmospheric sensors, e.g., CO2, humidity, etc. In addition, an optional inner lid is available for better thermal uniformity. The TSA12Gi base plate is removable and replaceable, and can be customized to fit a specific microscope stage.
TSA12Gi is an ideal solution for applications such as Cell Culturing, Biology, and Thermal Microscopy for inverted microscopes.

TSA12Gi Base-Model Options
Add-on options for the TSA12Gi base model are listed below. These items can be added at any time, and can even be installed by the end-user in the field.
TEC/ Frame Cooling Upgrades
The standard TSA12Gi comes with a C100W benchtop water circulator that enables sample cooling down to -20°C. By adding ice to the C100W reservoir, the minimum achievable temperature is -25°C, which can be maintained for a short duration until the ice melts. To maintain these lower temperatures for longer intervals, alternative water cooling options are available. The CW5000 is a recirculating chiller that uses a compact refrigeration system to cool and circulate water as low as 5°C, allowing the TSA12Gi to maintain -25°C indefinetly.
Note: Note: Cooling for extended durations in ambient conditions will lead to condensation on the thermal area and sample. The TSA12Gi chamber is sealed for light positive pressure gas purge prevent condensation while cooling. | |

Transmission Aperture Adjustment Some applications require larger transmission apertures than others- whether it be to see more of a sample, allow for more light transmission, or for compatibility with specialized instruments. However, larger transmission apertures also result in larger thermal gradients across the observation area, decreasing the temperature uniformity. Tune the TSA12Gi+ transmission aperture size to optimize the temperature uniformity while maximizing the transmission aperture size. | |
