Instec's HCP421V vacuum-tight hot/cold plate is designed for applications where a wide temperature range is needed and control over the atmosphere is critical. This compact thermal plate stage features a silver heating and cooling block, which provides exceptional temperature uniformity for samples around 20mm or smaller. This vacuum-tight model can be either purged or evacuated to low pressures to protect sensitive samples from moisture and oxygen, as well as to study vacuum processes such as freeze drying.(See HCP621G for gastight configuration).
Options are available including XY-sample positioning and up to 8 electric feedthroughs for sample connection and probing.

In this video, we heat an Instec HCP621G from room temperature to 180°C. The HCP621G has a hexagonal thermal plate which is approximately 30mm diameter in size. Instec rates most stages to a uniformity of 2% across the surface area and a stability to within 0.05C.
This video was taken using an IR imaging camera. A specially made imaging plate made of stainless steel was painted black to increase the IR emissivity and thus image quality. Thermal paste was used between the imaging plate and the heating plate. Some degree of non-uniformity is expected due to this setup and thus the Instec heating plate will have higher performance across the silver surface of the heating plate.
